An innovative Andalusian project develops an intelligent water-saving system for households that detects possible leaks
The tool will make it possible to measure specific expenditure in each wet room and will produce predictive models of consumption habits with recommendations for the efficient use of resources.

The Cordoba-based company Synergya Tech is developing an innovation project with the collaboration of Smart City Cluster, Cetemet and the University of Cordoba to efficiently manage water in homes.
The Aquadomus project, which has funding of more than 300,000 euros from the Andalusia Drought Plan, aims to solve the existing lack of information on the exact measurement of water consumption in homes. ‘Not the total volume, but the volume generated at each specific point of all the wet rooms in a home,’ said Antonio Ramírez, principal researcher at Synergya Tech. ‘There are references of general consumption in homes, but not detailed ones that can serve as a guide for individual management and optimisation of the use of water resources’, he added.
For his part, the general director of Smart City Cluster, Daniel González-Bootello, highlighted ‘the potential of aid such as that included in the PLAnd Sequía by the Junta de Andalucía to enable SMEs to form part of an innovation ecosystem that requires heavy investment in human resources and technology’.
The ultimate goal of the project, whose tool will be aimed at households, but can also be used in companies and public administrations, is to raise public awareness in order to achieve particular water savings that will have an impact on the general sustainability of the population, especially in current situations related to periods of drought and limited natural resources.
In this sense, the Aquadomus project proposes the analysis of each of the points of passage of water through sensors to measure the exact consumption and collect all the information (via radio or WIFI), transmit them to the cloud and present them on a smart platform, so that the user has before him all the data in an understandable, useful, friendly and simple way.
In addition to reporting consumption, the installed sensors will also provide citizens with leakage data to mitigate potential problems arising from water accumulation in advance. In this way, through predictive models of consumption habits in the home, it will also provide a set of tips and recommendations for reducing or optimising water consumption at any level.
This initiative is funded by the aforementioned PLAnd Sequía Andalucía, through the Regional Ministry of University, Research and Innovation, and is co-financed by the European Union’s Andalusia ERDF Programme 2021-2027.
