The Smart City Cluster will collaborate in the celebration of the VI Intelligent Cities Congress that, organized by Grupo Tecma Red, will be held on June 25, 2020 in Madrid under the slogan “Decarbonize, Digitize and Distribute: Challenges for the future of cities by 2050 “

Its official presentation took place on February 25 in a day open to the sector in the auditorium of the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (SEDIA), institutional collaborator of the Congress together with Red.es, of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation .

The launch day that was broadcast by streaming, with about 250 connections, brought together more than 150 professional representatives of all key actors, both from the public and private sectors, marking the beginning of the sixth edition of the event already consolidated as a forum of reference on Smart Cities and Territories in Spain.

With this approach, the VI Smart Cities Congress will address the key aspects related to Smart Cities and Territories, emphasizing how the use of technology and innovation will achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, within the framework of the 2030 Urban Agenda, and the European commitments of a society free of CO2 emissions in 2050.

Future challenges of cities in 2050 

During the presentation day of the VI Smart Cities Congress, the Roundtable “Decarbonize, Digitize and Distribute: Challenges of the future of the cities towards 2050” was developed, with the intervention of Antonio Alcolea, deputy general director of Promotion of the Information Society of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation; Francisco Javier Martín, General Director of Housing and Land of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda; Jesús Ferrero Soler, Deputy Director General of Renewable Energies and Studies of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge; Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza, recently appointed president of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities (RECI); and Ana Estebaranz, deputy director of Innovation and Growth of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).

The round table was moderated by the director of the Intelligent Cities Congress, Inés Leal, and during its development the challenges of the cities were discussed in the year 2050, in which the use of technological innovation will have special relevance to achieve the Objectives of Sustainable Development and the European goal of achieving a totally decarbonized society.

The process of identifying strategic lines and prioritizing measures that should be put in place, justifying public intervention, to promote the development of smart and sustainable cities was analyzed. Among other things, the speakers highlighted the challenge of extracting the value of data and the importance of data governance. The need to establish multimodal scenarios and economies of scale was also stressed, as well as the creation of courageous urban strategies adapted to the 2030 Urban Agenda.

Strengthen the role of civil society and generate policies of interest to citizens, placing the citizen as one of the agents of change, as well as betting on technology and digital as an essential ingredient to meet the challenges and meet the objectives, were other of the conclusions of the round table, where emphasis was also placed on technological humanism and the search for an innovative, sustainable economic development based on the circular economy. “The fundamental challenges we face in our cities are the opportunity of the next decades,” said Inés Leal.

Open the Call for Communications and Smart City Projects

On the launch day, the details of this sixth edition were presented and the Call for Communications and Projects of the VI Smart Cities Congress was convened. The director of the Congress encouraged the participation of professionals involved in the development of cities. “We want to address in a holistic way the vision of the future of Smart Cities and Territories in Spain, and for this we hope that all professionals share their initiatives and experiences and send us communication proposals to be able to make them known within the framework of the Congress” he stressed.

The Congress program will cover a wide variety of topics and will include various keynote lectures given by the Reference Administration, three round tables on strategic themes for Smart Cities and Territories, and the presentation of between 12 and 15 oral presentations selected by the Technical Committee of Appeal of Communications and Smart City Projects.

The call for proposals has already been opened to be included in any of the following thematic areas:

Professionals or entities interested in presenting Communications and Projects to the VI Smart Cities Congress (both national, European or international), must submit a brief proposal that summarizes their key aspects, using the online form available on the congress website : www.congreso-ciudades-inteligentes.es/comunicaciones

The proposals received will be evaluated by the organization, to verify that they conform to the themes and objectives of the Congress, and once accepted, the authors will be informed so that they can send by email the Final Communication or the City Project Sheet until on April 17, 2020.

The 12-15 Communications and / or Smart City Projects best valued by the Technical Committee will have the opportunity to be presented by their authors at the Congress. And all accepted Smart City Communications and Projects will be published in the Smart City Communications and Projects Book and / or in digital format through the ESMARTCITY portal. The book will also be available for purchase through Amazon, once the Congress is held.

Technical Committee of the VI Smart Cities Congress

On February 25, prior to the presentation of the VI Smart Cities Congress, the headquarters of SEDIA hosted the first meeting of the Technical Committee of the Congress to define the topics cited for the Call for Communications and Projects.
