The Spanish Network of Smart Cities (RECI) and Smart City Cluster have entered into a two-year collaboration agreement to launch cutting-edge initiatives nationwide. Announced during the Third Smart City Congress organized by RECI and held in Las Rozas (Madrid), the agreement aims to foster sustainable and intelligent urban development across Spain. Both entities have committed to acting as liaisons to facilitate public-private collaboration and provide cities with access to the latest smart city practices. They will develop innovative ideas, projects, and solutions proven to enhance citizens’ quality of life in the pioneering municipalities.

The agreement also includes establishing coordination mechanisms to pool efforts for a better understanding and dissemination of the smart city concept, strategic planning for urban development, identification and promotion of innovation projects, and the exchange and dissemination of scientific-technical knowledge, studies, reports, and research between both entities. It also envisages participation in expert commissions and other coordination bodies to promote knowledge exchange.

RECI Secretary Daniel Vega emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen public-private collaboration as a key factor in Spain’s ongoing digital transformation process. “We are living in the digital decade, and it’s crucial to address any process agilely, making the support from the smart cities industry, especially in disruptive technologies, essential for achieving this goal,” he stated.

Miguel Ángel Romero, President of Smart City Cluster, highlighted the progress made by uniting the collective representing Spanish territories with the leading representative of the smart cities industry, encompassing over 200 companies. “It’s a commitment to collaboration and generating talent and benefits for citizens. This agreement gives meaning to the collaborative work undertaken by the Cluster, embodying the other AI, Associative Intelligence,” he asserted.
