Smart Train Smart: A project to boost smart mobility in stations

Smart City Cluster and Railway Innovation Hub companies will develop avatars and guidance system in stations for people with mobility problems

29 Jul de 2019

The cluster specialized in the development of smart cities SMART CITY CLUSTER and the Spanish cluster of innovation in rail mobility, RAILWAY INNOVATION HUB, have just launched the first of the initiatives included in the first large collaborative project that they jointly activate, called ‘Smart Smart train ‘. This project has a double aspect; on the one hand, it intends an effective and real integration of the railway sector in the first and last mile strategies and, on the other, the application of innovative technologies to achieve more accessible train, metro and tram stations.

In this sense, both clusters have just activated this great collaborative project with the launch of the first of the initiatives that are going to be launched and that goes through the creation of intelligent avatars and guidance systems in the stations for people with difficulties of mobility

The companies associated to any of the two clusters that intend to participate in the first of the eight projects that consists of ‘Smart Train Smart’ have a deadline until September 16 to enroll in this initiative that also aims to facilitate people with mobility difficulties in railway, subway and tram stations.

Among the activities that have been raised in this first work, actions are foreseen, ranging from the definition of systems, necessary infrastructures at the stations and applicable technologies to the design of type models and even the launching of prototypes.

The promoters of this initiative within the Smart City cluster and RAILWAY INNOVATION HUB understand that the concept of “mobility without barriers” is directed towards achieving global accessibility to the transport system for all travelers and, therefore, “all users, regardless of their different degrees of mobility and capabilities, must enjoy the same comforts and conditions of access to public transport. ”

For this reason, they justify the implementation of this project in which the technologies that are emerging can lead to the development of new solutions that allow for more inclusive accessibility, such as the use of blockchain to create virtual avatars or certain applications. and people guidance systems based on beacon technologies, among others.

THE ‘SMART TRAIN SMART’ PROJECT

The ‘Smart Train Smart’ project is the first major collaborative project launched by Railway Innovation Hub, next to the Smart City Cluster, and which, among other objectives, has marked the increase of passenger and freight transport on trains, meters and trams, make transport linked to cities more sustainable and, at the same time, intends to solve barriers in the use of the train, subway and tram around cities. In order to achieve both objectives, the ‘Smart Train Smart’ project aims to use innovative solutions and make the innumerable advantages of using the rail transport mode more visible.

‘Smart Train Smart’ has therefore been divided into two large blocks of initiatives that will be launched over the coming months. The first of these is the initiative called Door to Door, which will raise issues related to the development of technologies to improve intermodality, freight transport or services received by train, subway and tram users, while the second large The block is made up of the Inclusive Accessibility initiative, of which the project for the creation of avatars and guidance systems is part.
