100% Renewable El Hierro

Endesa is committed to achieving a 100% decarbonized economy by 2050, in line with the European objectives of combating climate change.

In this sense, renewable energies are key in the fight against climate change, generating zero emissions into the atmosphere. It is also a generation distributed throughout the territory, closer to the points of consumption and resulting in the creation of local employment.

Endesa, through its renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power España (EGPE), is building facilities to increase the current power of its portfolio through a sustainable model.

One of those projects is El Hierro 100% Renewable, a plan in which Endesa, the Cabildo de El Hierro, the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands and the Government of the Canary Islands collaborate to supply sustainable energy (combining wind and water) to all of the demand on the island, considered a Biosphere Reserve and Geopark and in which about 10,600 inhabitants live. The 20-year objective is to reduce 6,000 tons of diesel and 19,000 tons of CO2.
