La Graciosa Project

The eighth Canary Island has not a square meter of asphalt and its energy supply depends on a cable that connects it to Lanzarote. With just over 600 inhabitants who live mainly from fishing and sustainable tourism and an area of 27 km2, La Graciosa is living a great electrical innovation: the evolution towards a self-sufficient system in which you can generate, store and distribute your own Energy.

The consortium that promotes the project, led by Endesa, is implementing a microrred on the island that will integrate the distributed generation obtained through photovoltaic panels with batteries and ultracapacitors that will help manage that fluctuating energy. In addition, a range of technologies (PLC communications, low and medium voltage automatisms, real-time monitoring and control systems, energy efficiency applications and active demand management) will allow efficient integration of photovoltaic energy into conventional networks.
