The Campiña Sur Cordobesa Commonwealth and Smart City Cluster Promote Sustainable Tourism in the Region

A work session with personnel from the municipalities in the region has jointly analyzed the assets, strategies, and challenges of the tourism sector in the area.

The Campiña Sur Cordobesa Commonwealth, in collaboration with Smart City Cluster, has taken a significant step towards strengthening the region as an Intelligent Tourist Destination with an initiative aimed at creating a value proposition that enhances the unique characteristics of each municipality in the region, boosting their potentials and establishing areas of identity, attraction, and reference. The manager of the Commonwealth, Javier Quijada, accompanied by the Entity’s Tourism technician, Mª José Priego, explained that “the Commonwealth is part of the Network of Intelligent Tourist Destinations, and therefore, we have applied to the Ministry of Industry and Tourism for the Aid for the Deployment of Technological Platforms and Digital Solutions, and additionally, Smart City Cluster will provide us with technical assistance in future grants that this Entity may apply for.” Quijada also emphasized “the importance of this collaboration for the future of tourism in the region, as this initiative represents a unique opportunity to consolidate Campiña Sur Cordobesa as a reference tourist destination, leveraging innovation and smart technologies.” In this regard, the Tourism technician, Mª José Priego, explained that “the collaboration with Smart City Cluster can bring valuable experience in the implementation of advanced technological solutions that will improve the visitor experience and optimize tourism management, in order to create a competitive and attractive tourist destination in this region, highlighting the singularities of each municipality and offering a unique experience to visitors.”

For his part, the Head of Territorial Innovation at Smart City Cluster, Miguel Ángel Martín, stated that the association represents the smart cities industry in Spain and that this session lays the groundwork for developing a tourism knowledge map for the Commonwealth, “a roadmap in tourism that unites the unique characteristics of each municipality, boosts their potentials, and creates common reference spaces.”

To achieve this, Martín detailed that all the plans (tourism, quality, sustainability, etc.) that are currently being developed or are pending execution by the Commonwealth and its municipalities will be analyzed “with the aim of understanding all the details and enhancing a joint offer for the coming years.”

This session was attended by mayors, councilors, and tourism technicians from the municipalities that belong to the Commonwealth, and they worked on various thematic blocks such as the concept of the Tourism Knowledge Map, the analysis and current situation of each municipality, the identification of key tourism resources and attractions, inter-municipal collaborations, and joint projects. Additionally, issues such as sustainability, the digitization of tourism services, the promotion of cultural and natural heritage, and the improvement of tourism infrastructure were addressed, essential topics to configure an integrated and competitive tourism offer that meets the demands of the modern tourist.
