Gediav 2 Develops a Digital Twin for a Wastewater Treatment Plant

February 21, 2024

GEDIAV 2 progresses from its first phase with the development of a digital twin for a specific wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), incorporating an advanced collaborative platform that blends a 3D representation of all the asset’s components with essential operational and strategic management data, utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM).

This continuation of the project sees the digital twin model previously explored expanded to two additional wastewater treatment plants within the same basin in phase 2. This expansion is executed alongside the integration of new control and data acquisition systems (SCADA), designed to deliver real-time information to various users and roles within a treatment plant. Enhancements will include improved predictive capabilities through Artificial Intelligence (AI), enabling anomaly detection and future hypothesis formulation regarding asset management, energy savings, and minimization of environmental impact.

The platform, supported by comprehensive data and information systems, will also enhance the cybersecurity and trustworthiness of WWTPs, crucial infrastructures that require high-security measures to prevent potential incidents or sabotage.

This project is a collaborative effort involving MSI Digital Builders, Elliot Cloud, and the Smart City Cluster, funded by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism as part of the support program for AEI, with collaboration from the European Union through Next Generation EU funds, as part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
