The mayor of Mairena del Alcor (Seville), Juanma López, and the president of the Smart City Cluster, Mariano Barroso, have signed this morning, after a meeting via videoconference, a collaboration agreement to project the municipality as a smart city, understood as more efficient, sustainable and comfortable for citizens.

Among the initial actions to be undertaken are the use of smart city platforms for the management of areas of the city such as lighting, smart irrigation, mobility and video surveillance, within the framework of the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy (Edusi); the implementation of a municipal campus to equip citizens with skills; the execution of low carbon economy actions and the implementation of telematic tools to facilitate the access of local commerce to the electronic market; actions now more relevant than ever to strengthen the City Council in the fight against Covid-19.

The agreement, which has been signed electronically, considers the contribution of solutions through the cluster itself and the knowledge and innovation generated by associated companies and technology centers as a basis for joint work.

Likewise, the agreement includes, among other aspects, the impulse to innovation in products, processes and services associated with smart urban infrastructures, the strengthening of two-way communication between the city council and citizens, the launching of pilot projects for new smart city technologies and processes, the revaluation of the natural and cultural attractions of the city through technological solutions and the promotion of training activities and organization of events related to smart urban infrastructures.

The mayor of Mairena del Alcor, Juanma López, stressed that “these last few weeks have served us to realize that the public administration needs a great change and that we have a large number of tools at our disposal that, if we manage to adopt them, will will allow to give a better service. For years, Mairena del Alcor has been committed to being at the forefront of this type of innovative initiative and tries to obtain funds that allow us to implement them. Furthermore, we have the peculiarity that we have been granted European funds through our Integrated Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI), which will allow us to take a step forward in this regard ”.

For his part, the president of the Smart City Cluster, Mariano Barroso, has indicated that “with the signing of this agreement, we undertake a common work path that must lead the municipality to reach the degree of smart city through the implementation of urban management and efficiency technologies through knowledge and innovations available to companies and entities that work in the smart city field ”.

At the same time, Mariano Barroso has highlighted the positive economic impact that the application of smart city solutions has in cities and towns in saving costs to municipalities as well as in generating employment and new business opportunities for the local business community .
