Flexener 3 Develops a Digital Platform for Flexible Energy Consumption Management

Flexener 3 is advancing the development of a digital platform designed to characterize and assess the ability to increase or decrease energy consumption within a specific timeframe in buildings, including commercial spaces and small to medium-sized industries. This initiative focuses on the concept of energy flexibility.

Building on the successes of its preliminary phases 1 and 2, Flexener demonstrated the deployment of flexibility management algorithms at CEMOSA facilities and expanded its trial to the University of Malaga. There, two use cases were introduced (electric vehicle and generators) to extend clients’ energy flexibility.

Flexener aims to control the operation and consumption of existing HVAC systems while integrating new energy production and storage units. This approach facilitates the digitalization of energy management systems without requiring significant one-time investments, achieving savings of up to 15% without compromising user comfort.

The project is a collaborative effort involving the Center for Construction Studies and Materials (CEMOSA), Software for Critical Systems (SOFTCRITS), Hispasec Sistemas (HISPASEC), the University of Malaga (UMA), and the Smart City Cluster. It receives funding from the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Tourism as part of the AEI support program, with additional support from the European Union through Next Generation EU funds, under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
